Microneedling

Microneedling is Available - Elements Acupuncture

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves puncturing the skin with fine needles. These tiny punctures stimulate the skin’s natural healing process, leading to increased collagen and elastin production, resulting in smoother, firmer skin. It is commonly used to improve the appearance of scars, wrinkles, and uneven skin texture. Microneedling is minimally invasive and one of the best ways to boost collagen and elastin!

While microneedling is most often offered for the face only, the experience at Elements Acupuncture is comprehensive, and includes face, neck, and chest. All products have been carefully selected to support this treatment and are considered clean and safe for all skin types, including those with sensitive skin.

Benefits of Microneedling:

  1. Collagen Production: Microneedling stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, which are essential for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. This can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  2. Scar Reduction: Microneedling can improve the appearance of scars, including acne scars, by breaking down scar tissue and promoting the growth of new, healthy skin cells.
  3. Improved Skin Texture: By promoting cell turnover and exfoliation, microneedling can lead to smoother, more even skin texture, reducing the appearance of roughness and uneven pigmentation.
  4. Enhanced Absorption of Skincare Products: The micro-channels created by microneedling allow skincare products to penetrate deeper into the skin, increasing their effectiveness.
  5. Minimally Invasive: Compared to more aggressive treatments like laser therapy, microneedling is minimally invasive and typically has minimal downtime and side effects.
  6. Versatility: Microneedling can be used to treat various skin concerns, including aging skin, hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores, and stretch marks.
  7. Reverse Hair loss: Microneedling stimulates blood flow and nutrient delivery to the scalp, promoting the growth of thicker, healthier hair follicles.

Benefits of Microneedling from an Acupuncturist’s Perspective:

  1. Stimulation of Acupoints: Microneedling involves the insertion of tiny needles into the skin, similar to acupuncture. From an acupuncturist’s perspective, these micro-injuries can stimulate acupuncture points, promoting the flow of Qi (vital energy) and blood circulation in the skin.
  2. Holistic Approach: Acupuncturists often view skin health as closely connected to overall well-being. By promoting balance and harmony within the body’s energy systems, microneedling may not only improve skin appearance but also contribute to overall health and vitality.
  3. Complement to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Treatments: Microneedling can be seen as a modern technique that complements traditional Chinese medicine modalities like acupuncture, herbal medicine, and dietary therapy. It offers another tool for addressing skin concerns within the context of a holistic treatment approach.
  4. Long-term Benefits: Acupuncturists understand the long-term benefits of microneedling, as it can support the body’s natural healing processes and promote sustainable improvements in skin health over time.

In summary, microneedling offers a range of benefits for skin rejuvenation and can also be viewed through the lens of traditional Chinese medicine, where it is seen as a technique that promotes balance and vitality within the body’s energy systems.

Recommended Frequency:

  • Microneedling works best in 3-6 sessions for lasting results (though you will notice results after the first session!). Schedule follow up sessions 4-6 weeks after initial session.
  • You can choose to do cosmetic acupuncture sessions or acupuncture in between.

Downtime & Aftercare

  • For microneedling, it’s best to stay makeup free for 12-24 hours while your skin heals. You may choose to go product free or use only water-based products.
  • You may see some redness or peeling for 1-2 weeks after treatment. Plan accordingly if you are planning to do this for a special event!
  • There is no downtime with nanoneedling or cosmetic acupuncture.
